Appellate Practice
Our Firm represents clients in both federal and state appellate courts. At the state level, we have successfully handled appeals in all fourteen appellate districts within the State of Texas, and routinely appear before the Texas Supreme Court. At the federal level, our Firm represents clients before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, as well as the United States Supreme Court.

Although some firms might occasionally file a brief in the Nation’s highest Court, our Firm has done much more. In addition to filing countless briefs, our Firm has presented not just one—but two—oral arguments in the United States Supreme Court. Very few Firms can match that credential.

Our Firm has extensive experience in handling appeals before the State of Texas’ highest civil court. Indeed, hundreds of appearances have occurred over the years, with at least six oral arguments before the Texas Supreme Court. In 2015 alone, the Firm achieved three unanimous victories against the City of Houston and its former mayor. Two of those successful decisions related to vindicating the voting rights of over a million Houstonians to vote for or against a controversial ballot issue. The other winning opinion invalidated over a billion dollars in taxes illegally assessed by the City of Houston.

Our Firm routinely files appellate briefs and presents oral arguments in every single state appellate court in Texas, as well as with the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana. Noted for his gift of advocacy and the power of his oral narrative skills by the Houston Chronicle, Andy Taylor is widely considered to be one of the most effective appellate oralists in the State of Texas.
